Merry Christmas!

This past year has been a bit slow for me. Many of you know I really messed up my shoulder in June and it has been a very long road to recovery. It made it darn hard to design anything medicated. The math is hard enough without it! :-)

I am finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel! I am making good progress on healing and if I continue to heal can avoid surgery. What a blessing, indeed! I will know in a few months for sure. Prayers appreciated!

On the flip side, although design opportunities have slowed (you don't work if you don't submit), I've been blessed with other opportunities that I can't wait to share with you! Just a few more weeks before I can tell!

In the mean time, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a very Blessed New Year!

Eye Candy!

Every once in a while I run across a pattern I just can't wait to make. Usually, as a designer, I don't have much time to make things just for the fun of making them. Deadlines are looming and all that. I do think it's important to work on something other than my own designs from time to time, though. I think it helps me to grow as a designer and a knitter/crocheter. I can learn new techniques and shaping that I might not even consider on my own. It really does help expand my own knowledge and skills - something that is never a waste of time!
Lois S. Young's Scandinavian Stripes sure fits that bill for me! It may take me a year to complete - I think it will be time well spent! I love color work in both knitting and crochet and find that the more I do it the easier it is becoming. What new project are you going to jump in and try? I'd love to hear about it!

Banana Moon Studio Book One: Girls

Are you looking for beautifully designed girls clothing? Then April Garwood's book is just for you! April has 7 very sweet designs any little girl would love to wear! The collection is a very nice blend of all skill levels. Her cute little sweaters and shrug are a great way to learn to make garments. Don't you just love those rockin' red boots, too? If you are looking for a small gift for your little princess, how about this super cute book cover? My very favorite designs in April's book are the Capri pants and her leg warmers! What little girl wouldn't love these? And for those who are pretty new to crochet, why not try her cute hat, mitten and scarf set? It's a wonderful way to learn shaping and getting gauge. This is a book you will find yourself using over and over! You can find her book available at here, here or here.

Betsy's Shawl

Okay, who else can't believe it's October??? I have no idea where this summer went. Planning 2 Professional Development Days this summer seemed to make it slip away super fast! I meet so many new friends at the conferences this year - I really love going for that reason alone! It's awesome to be able to put a face to name you've met online! During the conference many of you saw me wear "Betsy's Shawl". I wrote this pattern for a very favorite cousin who is currently undergoing chemo. I wanted her to feel a hug while she is in treatment. Betsy is very dear to my heart. My shawl is worked side-to-side with the border added on at the end. It is a very easy shawl to make and the LB Collection® Silk Yarn is stunning! It makes any outfit pop!

I have a new shawl coming out in "Autumn Crochet! Magazine, Crochet for a Quiet Evening". I love this shawl and hope you do, too! It is worked side-to-side and the trim is a very easy repeat pattern! The print version goes on sale 8/20 - available on the Crochet! Magazine website.

Sometimes life throws you a big curve. For the last 6 weeks I have been struggling with shoulder pain that finally came to a head 2 weeks ago. Plenty of Physical Therapy has ensued and now other avenues are being explored.

Hopefully, things will pick back up again and life can get back to normal - even if it's a new normal for me for now. It's kinda hard to blog about designing when you can't do much - I am back to working on ideas and working with contractors . Hopefully, the down time won't be long. :-)

In the mean time - how do you all feel about cooking, gardening, life....I enjoy blogging but you kinda need a topic ;-)

How many of you went to the conference? When I am a little more clear headed I will post some  photos! It's a wonderful place to meet new friends and see old ones!

I love this shawl!!! It is made from Knit Picks Curio thread. It was an absolute pleasure to work with this thread! I love the drape and delicacy it lends to my shawl. The shawl itself is a pretty easy pattern to follow - it's the stringing of beads that takes patients!  The payoff is huge, though! You have a lovely project that you will want to wear for many years! Why not give the Jemma Shawl a try today?

New Yarn - New Pattern Coming Soon!

I put the finishing touches on my newest pattern today! I am so excited! It's a beautiful new yarn that is coming out very soon!

The pattern is a very elegant shawl with a light and lacy beaded border. It is very easy to do - stringing the beads are what takes the most time. It is a wonderful first bead crochet project!

Photos and link to the pattern coming just as soon as the yarn is released!

Busy. Busy. Busy.

I have been very busy making proposals. I also have 2 graduations and a wedding over the next few weeks. My youngest son is graduating college AND getting married. So fun to get all major life events over with in just a few weeks! Soon, my husband and I will truly be empty nesters!

Thankfully, my work load has lessened a bit this month. I was lucky enough to have a 2 week downtime just to make whatever I wanted to make. A little downtime is always a refreshing time for me - I love just picking a stitch and yarn and then deciding what I am going to make. No plotting. No planning. Just playing!

Hopefully, you will enjoy the designs I came up with soon!

Knit-Around Baby Blanket

Another pattern is out! This baby blanket is the perfect project to learn to knit in the round on dpn's. The yarn is bulky, so it is very easy to keep on the needles! After the first few rows you switch over to a circular needle and off you go! It's a fun project that works up very quickly!

Check out Knit 1-2-3 today!
